Channing Dayton
Fringe Artist
I am a dancer and choreographer rooted in a contemporary process that is collaborative in nature, aiming to raise understanding and awareness of "taboo" or "controversial" topics, because of my belief that education is vital to cultivating a safe and socially aware society. I create work with my dancers and truly feed off who is in the room, in addition to having inspiration from other art mediums, such as photography, videography, painting, etc. My cast of dancers are vital to my process, and I treat the process and cast as a living ecosystem, where each work is unique to the individuals in the room, and could not be "copy and pasted" onto another group of dancers. I started creating work with this philosophy in college, and am currently involved in the Jacobs Pillow Curriculum in Motion Institute cohort, where I am exploring my artistic and choreographic practice through the lens of community involvement.
