Michelle Medina Villalon
Fringe Artist
Michelle Medina Villalon is a playwright based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She mostly pens poetry, short nonfiction, and plays. Her play, Mythos, was performed as part of the Southeastern Theatre Conference Fringe Festival in February 2023. Mythos was also selected to be part of the OdysseyStage Play Development program in 2025. She serves as the Theatre Editor for Cultural Voice North Carolina, where she was a critic for three years prior. Aside from writing, Michelle has been an active member of the Charlotte theatre community for three years, working as an intimacy professional and director. She pursues work that challenges our ideas of traditional theatre, seeking to create pieces that are immersive, experiential, and challenging.

Mythos is an immersive, dramatic chorepoem that explores the real women behind four iconic North American urban myths: La Llorona, the Lady in Red, the Bell Witch, and Marie Laveau. The show unmasks these mystical characters, removing the veils of horror and mystery to reveal the real female experiences behind the myth: their suffering, their pride, their joy, and their power. With a powerhouse cast, a focus on female empowerment, and overcoming adversity, the characters in Mythos reclaim their stories from myth and legend.
