Indian Performing Arts Association

Intersection Artist

For over two decades, the Indian Performing Arts Association of Charlotte has shared a deep love for Indian classical music, particularly the rich vocal traditions of North India. As a group of trained vocalists, they have chosen a path less traveled by performing together as an ensemble in a genre traditionally known for solo expression.

Their collaboration spans 20 years of musical exploration, friendship, and innovation. Accompanied by talented percussionists and instrumentalists, they present original compositions rooted in the Raga-Tala system—India’s unique framework of melody and rhythm. Each performance is a celebration of tradition reimagined, blending classical depth with fresh, collective expression.

The Indian Performing Arts Association of Charlotte invites you into the immersive world of North Indian Classical Music, where melody and rhythm become reflections of nature itself. Through the nuanced interplay of Raga (melodic framework) and Tala (rhythmic cycle), our vocalists and instrumentalists present compositions that evoke the mood of the time of day and the season in which they are performed.

From the serene morning ragas that awaken the soul, to the vibrant evening melodies that stir emotion, each piece is a living dialogue with the environment. This ancient tradition, rarely performed in ensemble format, comes alive in our collaborative presentation—blending voices, percussion, and melodic instruments in a celebration of time, place, and musical devotion.
