Kate Gupton

Intersection Artist

Kate Gupton is a dance/movement artist who evokes satire, theater, and avant-art forms in her work. Gupton’s work explores nature, psychology, and art-making as a whole. Working in a collaborative space, Gupton creates work distinct to the bodies on the stage, gluing the dance to time and space. Watching Gupton’s work, audiences can expect to gasp, question, and most of all smile. With a lighthearted tone, the aim of the work is to leave audiences more empathetic, more compassionate, and with hope in their hearts.

"The Weight of Things" is a context duet rooted in the fundamental idea that physical connection evokes empathy. Through touch, weight share, and improvisational movement, the dancers dive deeper into the intimacies of all relationships. In this duet, the dancers explore the idea that the root of empathy lies in the body, connecting this truth to their lived experiences.
