Umayal Annamalai - Creative Harmony Arts
Intersection Artist
Umayal Annamalai is a mixed media artist and storyteller who weaves narrative and synthesis through her art and community work. Rooted in culture, diaspora, and collective memory, her paintings become spaces where story, symbolism, and emotion converge.
Working across visual art, writing, and spoken word, her interdisciplinary practice explores identity, belonging, and the quiet architecture of our inner lives. Through layered materials, color, pattern, and intuitive form, she examines interdependence and communal rising how we are shaped by lineage, relationship, and shared resilience.
Her work reflects a deep reverence for cultural inheritance while inviting contemporary dialogue around compassion, resilience, and self-remembrance. Feminine sovereignty emerges in her work not as dominance, but as integrity balanced with empathy. She is interested in how authentic expression can rise collectively without division, without disconnection.
BOOM 2026 Performances
Kolam is a Tamil ritual art form drawn each morning at the threshold of the home a living prayer in line and pattern. Traditionally, it marks the space between inside and outside, self and world, offering protection, blessing, beauty, and welcome. Umayal reinterprets kolam as a map of inner belonging.
The lines, loops, knots, and mirrored forms become a language for exploring how we shape our relational boundaries and interconnectedness. She will draw the kolam live in rice flour and demonstrate its significance. She will also have an interactive station, where people can come and learn how to draw these patterns and take home.
